To which Paul Manafort spent millions laundered
Former head of Donald Trump's campaign headquarters, Paul Manafort, is accused of conspiring against the United States, as well as of laundering 18 million dollars.
This follows from federal indictmentpublished by the Department of Justice 30 October.
According to the investigation, Manafort earned most of the money by lobbying the interests of Ukraine in the United States, after which he transferred them to offshore accounts and did not pay taxes on these revenues.
According to law enforcement officers, Manafort spent laundered 18 millions for the following purposes:
- Improvements to his mansion in the Hamptons, New York - $5,4 million.
- Home lighting and entertainment in Florida - $1,3 million.
- Antique Rug Store in Alexandria, Virginia - $934, plus $350 in related items.
- Clothing store in New York - $849.
- Landscaping a home in the Hamptons - $820.
- Antique store in New York - $623.
- Clothing store in Beverly Hills, California - $520.
- Investment company - $500.
- Florida Contractor - $432.
- Virginia Contractor - $125.
- Mercedes-Benz - $62.
- Range Rover - $47.
- Payments related to the maintenance of three Range Rover — $163.
- Hamptons Home Installation Company - $112.
- Property Management Company in South Carolina - $46.
- Art gallery in Florida - $31.
- Home maintenance services in New York - $20.
The indictment also states that Manafort used the money to buy three properties:
- Condominium in the Soho area of New York for 1,5 million dollars.
- Apartment in Brooklyn for 3 million dollars.
- House in Arlington, Virginia, for 1,9 million dollars.
Manafort registered condo in Soho on airbnb and leased it for at least a year, starting in January 2015, while he enjoyed tax breaks for owners of rental properties.
The documents also state that he took mortgage loans from banks that he used for other purposes, and also used schemes to get a lower interest rate on loans.
