US intelligence found the Kremlin’s response to a meeting between Putin and Trump
Russia was “pleased” with the meeting between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, intelligence sources say.
Russia believes the talks ended better than expected, according to two CNN sources. At the same time, Moscow “is perplexed why Trump does not carry out more legislative initiatives friendly towards Russia” following the summit, writes “New time«.
US intelligence officials believe that Russia was “particularly pleased” with the press conference that Putin and Trump gave following the meeting. During his speech, the US President said that he had no evidence of Russian interference in the American elections.
As the intelligence official said, "The Kremlin turns a blind eye to the fact that Congress and others in the United States play a significant role in the formulation of US policy."
Recall 16 July in Helsinki behind closed doors Took place official meeting of Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. At the final press conference, the parties noted the progress in improving bilateral relations.
American politicians and most of the world's media called the results of the negotiations a failure for Trump - the US President is accused of weakness and betrayal of the country's interests.
The evening of August 8 US Department of State объявил, that around August 22, a package of sanctions provided for by the 1991 law on countering countries that use chemical and biological weapons will be introduced against Russia. These sanctions restrict the export of dual-use products. The 1991 law, in particular, states that if the country does not renounce the use of chemical weapons and does not allow independent observers within the next three months, then a second round of sanctions will come into force. It also provides for a reduction in the level of diplomatic relations, minimization of foreign trade relations and a ban on the airline (Aeroflot) flying to the United States.
The reason for the sanctions was Russia's involvement in the case of the poisoning of the former GRU colonel Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in the British city of Salisbury.
In Russia, they categorically deny involvement in this crime, insisting on an open investigation.
