American Academy of Pediatrics has changed the recommendations for the carriage of children in the car
The American Academy of Pediatrics has updated recommendations for transporting children in a car. Now they must ride backwards in the backseat until they reach a height or weight limit.
Updated recommendations change previous academy leadershipwhich said that children should ride backwards in the rear, at least until 2 years. The new recommendation eliminates the age characteristic.
Car seat manufacturers create places that allow children to remain in them until they reach 40 pounds (18 kg), said Dr. Benjamin Hoffman, lead author of the updated academy guides.
"It's best to keep the child in the back seat as much as possible," said Hoffman, chairman of the academy's Council on Trauma, Violence and Poisons. “It is still the safest way for children to ride.”
According to the academy, using the proper car seat reduces the risk of death or serious injury by more than 70%.
Once children reach the height or weight limit, their car seat should be placed facing forward and use seat belts. In this position, you need to carry as long as possible. Often up to 65 pounds (29,4 kg).
All children under 13 must be in the backseat of a car.
