Americans spend more on taxes than on food and clothing
The average American pays $10 in federal, state and local taxes per year, including $489 in food and clothing, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics' 9 Consumer Expenditures report.
Since 2013, the average tax amount has increased by 41%. According to BLS, federal income tax increased from $ 5 743 to $ 8 367 in this period. State and local income taxes increased from $ 1 629 to $ 2 046.
