Vakhtangov: Viktor Sukhorukov, Sergey Makovetsky, Evgeny Knyazev, Alexey Guskov, Vladimir Simonov, Yulia Rutberg will hold a meeting at the New York Public Library. The topic of the meeting will be a discussion of the play “Smile on Us, Lord,” with the premiere of which the theater came to the United States. The play is based on the novels “Smile on Us, Lord” and “Little Goat for Two Pennies” by Grigory Kanovich. Staged and directed by Rimas Tuminas.

“Smile to us, O Lord,” is a story about the long life journey of old Jews traveling from town to the city in order to learn about the fate of the son of one of them, who was in trouble. Memories of the past, of joys and sorrows, of unfulfilled hopes, and of bitter losses. At the heart of the performance is one plot - the road to children, and one meaning - the philosophy of life, where each has his place. By the end, the Jewish theme is already developing into a universal one: this is a play that parents and children always live on different shores, about the eternal road and about the carriage of life and that no force can make a person give up the dream of freedom and hope for luck.
