'Hellishly cold and rainy': what awaits New Yorkers at the weekend
The remains of Hurricane Villa will intensify the Nor'easter cyclone, which will collapse this weekend in the Big Apple in the form of heavy rain and gusts of winds up to 50 miles per hour.
The villa, a 5 category hurricane, first hit Mexico early this week, then weakened to a tropical storm. According to AccuWeather, part of the moisture from the storm moves from south to northeast.
The weather forecasters expect heavy precipitations from 3 in the morning to 15 in the afternoon on Saturday. Most of the region can see from 1 to 2 inches (2,5-5 cm) of rain, although all 3 inches (7,62 cm) are also possible.
According to forecasts, the temperature on Saturday will be 5-10 degrees Celsius.
Wind gusts will reach 50 mph near the coast and 35 to 40 mph (56 to 64 km/h) inland. There is a threat of flooding of coastal areas.
Despite the cold forecasts, New Yorkers do not have to get winter shoes.
"If snow falls from the cyclone, it will be limited to higher ground throughout the northeast," said forecaster Keanes.
Sunday will be warmer. The weather will be cloudy, but sunny in some places. The temperature will be above 10 degrees Celsius.
