How to complain about discrimination in New York
The New York City Hall has a Commission on Human Rights, which can now report violations of your rights online.
Discrimination form posted on the website of the City Hall.
In the form, the applicant must indicate the name of the person or company who committed the act of discrimination against him, but he has the right not to provide his personal data (name, address, phone number and email).
The applicant will need to explain the essence of the incident, as well as indicate the date when it happened.
At the same time, the report to the Commission on Human Rights is not an official complaint to the law enforcement agencies, which means that the commission cannot punish the person who committed the discrimination or obtain compensation from him in favor of the injured person. Therefore, the complainant, in parallel with the communication to the commission, may also file an official complaint to the law enforcement bureau of the Commission on Human Rights, which will entail an investigation and a trial regarding the incident.
According to the laws of New York, an official complaint of discrimination can be made within a year after the incident.
