Life has improved under Obama - Gallup poll
After Barack Obama assumed the presidency, more and more Americans felt an improvement in their quality of life. This is evidenced by data from the International Research Center Gallup, published Tuesday.
For almost 8 years after President Barack Obama took office in January 2009, the percentage of American adults who value their lives well enough to consider it “prosperous” improved by almost 4 percentage points.
The 55,4% of Americans who are thriving in 2016 is the highest in 9 years.
Moreover, members of each ethnic or racial group in the Gallup study also felt improvements on themselves.
“The percentage of white and black Americans, Hispanics and Asians who are prosperous during the Obama era has increased,” Gallup notes. The percentage of blacks who are prosperous increased by about 6 points, as did the percentage of whites and Hispanics. Asian Americans have risen about 10 points since 2008.
The respondents had the opportunity to compare the quality of their lives with the 3 variants: thriving, experiencing difficulties and painful. At the same time, choosing 1 from points, it was necessary to evaluate it on a 10-point scale. Those who rate their current life as a 7 or higher and their life in 5 years as an 8 or higher are classified as prosperous.
Of course, no president can wave a magic wand and make people's lives better. This measure is most likely an indicator of a number of factors affecting people's lives, and the presidents have limited control.
In 2008, for example, the country was in the midst of the Great Recession. The increase in the proportion of people calling themselves “prosperous” since then is hardly surprising.
Of course, economic policy is central to the Obama administration, including the 2009 stimulus package of the year. But his supporters and critics disagree on how much this policy helped pull the country out of the crisis.
