High paying professions that will make you miserable

If you thought a high salary was all you needed to be happy, think again. Many high-paying professions are full of stress, which will later lead to poverty.

Time described five professions that, in summary, make people unhappy and that is why:

1. Doctor

Cardiologist Sandeep Jahur wrote in his book The Disillusionment of the American Physician that highly paid and proud doctors are deeply unhappy with what is happening in the medical field, and many of them regret their chosen profession. He points to research in which only 6% of doctors describe their work morale in a positive way.

“I feel like a pawn in the hospital administrators' game for profitability. How many other professions could I choose and fill my life with more meaning? The sad news is that I chose medicine because I thought it was useful and noble, but it is not.”

At least this is a high-paying farce. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, doctors rank first in the top-paid professions in the country. The average salary of a doctor exceeds $ 20 150 per year. However, most doctors claim that their salary has not changed or even decreased.

As Jahur put it, “American doctors are suffering from a collective malaise” due to bureaucratic wars. Research shows that up to 40% of current doctors would choose a different profession if they could turn back time.

Doctors usually have a high suicide rate. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Suicide, male doctors commit suicides by 70% more often than other professions, and women by 250-400% more often die from suicide than other professions.

2. Junior Investment Banker

In his book Young Money, author Kevin Ruse shares the stories of recent college graduates. What he found out is shocking:

“The worst part is the labor practices,” Roose wrote, referring to the 120-hour weeks new bankers must work. The workload is so high that even high salaries - from $75000 a year with bonuses that are twice as much - are not encouraging. In January of this year, institutions such as Credit Suisse and Citigroup forced reductions in workers' hours, and other banks raised pay for junior bankers to compensate for their grueling work schedules.

3. Sales Manager

To be responsible for sales is very difficult. That's why, despite the high pay ($ 123 150 per year), according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the sales manager is still on the Forbes professions list. What is the problem? Discontent causes constant pressure, boredom and emptiness.

4-5. Dentist and lawyer

The average annual salary of dentists is about $ 155 000. In large cities, such as New York and Chicago, the law requires you to pay about $ 160 000. In both cases, however, money does not add happiness. According to research data, dentists are in the top professions whose representatives most often commit suicide. Lawyers are also known for high suicide rates and have the highest level of depression among the 100 professions. Dentists are often unhappy because they graduated from college with large student loan debts (often around $ 200 000).
