War to the bitter end: Trump spoke about the new US strategy in Afghanistan

Trump believes that the hasty withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan will create a vacuum that the terrorists will quickly fill.

"My initial instinct was to withdraw troops from Afghanistan," he was quoted as saying.Voice of America"US President Donald Trump during his speech in Virginia. "After many meetings over many months, we held a final meeting last Friday at Camp David with members of my Cabinet and the generals to finalize our strategy."

Donald Trump outlined the three main US interests in Afghanistan.

First, "the United States must achieve an honorable and reliable result that deserves the tremendous sacrifices that have been made."

Secondly, “the consequences of a quick withdrawal from Afghanistan are predictable and unacceptable. A hasty withdrawal will create a vacuum that terrorists quickly fill, including from ISIS and al-Qaida, as happened before the events of September 11 of the year 2001. ”

Third, according to the American president, he “concluded that the security threats we face in Afghanistan and the region are enormous.”

Donald Trump also criticized Pakistan, which, he says, "is a haven for terrorist organizations." The US president noted that “Pakistan will benefit from a partnership with the US in Afghanistan,” but it can “lose a lot” if it provides shelter to terrorists.

The US President also said that the United States will no longer announce start or end dates for any military operations. “We will not talk about troop numbers or our plans,” Donald Trump added.

In addition, the American president advocated giving greater powers to local commanders for rapid response. “Washington macro management is not winning battles. "They are won on the field, with the judgment and experience of commanders acting in real time - with real authority - and with a clear mission to defeat the enemy," Donald Trump said.

The US will also stop using its military power to build democracy outside America, particularly in Afghanistan. “Instead,” Donald Trump said, “we will work with allies and partners to protect our common interests. We do not ask others to change their lifestyle, but rather pursue common goals that enable our children to live better lives.”

America will continue to cooperate with the Afghan government as long as Washington sees willingness and progress from Kabul. “The American people expect to see real reform and real results,” Donald Trump said.
