In Florida, a hole with a diameter of 14 meters appeared in the ground

A small man-made disaster occurred in resort Florida: in early September, a huge hole appeared in the ground - 14 meters in diameter.

The hole appeared near the city of Tampa Bay, where there is a rich phosphate deposit and where Mosaik, a fertilizer manufacturer, operates. However, the hole is dangerous not only in itself. It accumulates production waste from the Mosaik plant - contaminated water with an increased level of radioactivity.

It is estimated that 310 Olympic-size swimming pools can be filled with this water.

This poisoned water fell into artesian wells, which are used by local residents. Mosaik for some reason did not inform them about this issue. Also, for some unknown reason, the local authorities did nothing, which Mosaik promptly reported about the problem.

Mosaik offers owners of artesian wells to check the quality of the incoming water for free, but it is not easy to call the number indicated. The company agreed to organize the supply of bottled water to residents of the affected areas.

The track record of Mosaik is far from ideal. Last year, the company paid a fine of $ 2 billion for inadequate disposal of industrial waste in Florida and Louisiana.
