Collectors with pictures of Banksy became interested in art historians, whether their property would become more expensive if it was cut too. Experts advised not to do so.

“Several owners of Banksy's paintings contacted us and asked if their work would be more expensive if they were let through a shredder. Please, please DO NOT. What happened in the last 24 hours is a unique piece of art history. ”

Later, the staff of MyArtBroker told that the collector, who had cut the Banksy picture, turned to them. It was about the unsigned “Girls with Balloon” print: there are such copies of all 600 pieces, and they cost an average of 40 thousand pounds (52-53 thousands of dollars). The collector asked to set the price of work in 80 thousand pounds (105 thousand dollars), but art historians refused to place the lot and said that the price to him now was a maximum of one pound (approximately 1,3 dollars).

Banksy is unique to the world of art. No other artist captures the hearts and minds of people as he does. So when Banksy does something crazy like cutting a picture, it will increase its value. And the act of the collector, on the contrary, lowered the cost of his work to almost zero.

“There are a limited number of Balloon Girls in the world.” We lost one and it’s a crying shame,” said Ian Sayer, co-founder of MyArtBroker.

"Girl with a balloon" - one of the most famous images of Banksy. At the auction version sold by him in 2006, on canvas with aerosol and acrylic paints. According to the description on the site Sothebyʼs, the picture was sold in the author's frame.

The artist Banksy published a video in which he shared the process of preparing the picture for self-destruction.

“A few years ago, I secretly inserted a shredder into the picture in case it ever happens at an auction,” wrote Banksy on instagram.

On the frames he published, you can see a person standing with his back to the camera inserting the chopper into the frame.

The artist's experiment inspired creative minds. Knoptop Blogger even made a miniature version of Banksy's picture with a built-in shredder.
