In Virginia, a police dog for 15 minutes found the missing children

Virginia police found two missing children who got lost in the woods, Sheriff Pohatan’s office reported.

For 45 minutes, parents and neighbors tried to find two 8-year-olds on Saturday. After dusk, relatives turned to the police.

The children got lost while playing a "game of chase," WRIC reported.

"We didn't know what to do," said girl Chloe Reese. “We forgot which way we were going and tried to find our way back to our house.”

Police and K-9 Bane searched the house before going into the woods, Deputy Sheriff Quinn Pasy said. From there, the Bane sheepdog took a trail and found the children in 15 minutes.

According to WRIC, the dog was given Chick-fil-A ice cream as a reward.

According to a Facebook page, Bane, a Dutch shepherd dog, specializes in drug detection and patrols.

“Once the children were safe at home, the dog returned to patrol in anticipation of the next call,” the sheriff's office wrote on Facebook. “Job well done, K-9 Bane!”

The sheriff's office added that the incident confirmed the need to preserve their K-9 programs, even though most agencies do not have a budget for them. One dog with no training can cost $ 8 000, according to the National Police Dog Foundation. Interest in the search prompted Pasi to publish information about donations for training and equipping the K-9 division.
