In the US, waiting for a new hurricane Neith: evacuation began

Tropical storm nate intensified to a hurricane of the first power category on the five-point Saffir-Simpson scale and moves towards the central part of the Gulf of Mexico, the US Hurricane Center reports on Saturday.

The hurricane currently has maximum wind gusts of nearly 135 km/h and a forward speed of 35 km/h.

Experts predict that by late Saturday evening he will reach the coast of New Orleans in the US state of Louisiana.

Earlier, state authorities of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida declared a state of emergency, and in Mississippi they are preparing to open 11 evacuation centers.

In Louisiana, evacuation of residents of coastal areas and islands not protected from the storm is carried out: Venetian Islands, Lake Catherine and Irish Bayou.

The authorities of New Orleans will erect barricades to stop a possible flood, and will also close all underground passages. The police said that its employees would take "coercive measures against anyone who would climb over the barricades or break the curfew."
New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrier noted that the greatest threat is not rain, which will bring a storm, but a strong wind and storm surge. Winds can cause significant power cuts, and storm waves can reach 1,8-2,7 m.
