The National Geographic Society of the USA sold the world famous magazine National Geographic, reports The New York Times.
In particular, Australian and American media mogul Rupert Murdoch, who owns 21st Century Fox, became the new owner of the publication. According to media reports, the deal became known on Wednesday, the amount of the purchase amounted to 725 million dollars.
In addition, the National Geographic Society sold, in addition to the magazine, also a number of other assets. At the same time, jointly with 21st Century Fox, a joint venture called National Geographic Partners was created, where 73% of the joint venture will belong to 21st Century Fox and 27% to the National Geographic Society.
In this case, the two owners will have equal rights in the management of the company.
It is noteworthy that the National Geographic Society will continue to operate as a non-profit organization, and Murdoch’s company will increase donations by one billion dollars, which will double the investment in science and research.
