Extreme weather conditions are expected in the USA
Over the next 7-10 days, the weather will change dramatically in the northern hemisphere.
This change is likely to lead to severe Arctic cold in the Midwest and Eastern United States. Western Europe and East Asia will be affected.
New weather model can lead to blizzards along the US East Coast, although it is too early to say what forecasters will happen, according to weather forecasters. One thing is clear - winter will come earlier than expected.
Computer model calculations show cold arctic masses in the southeastern United States by December 10. They fix there for a week or two. Daytime temperatures will be at 6-9 degrees Celsius below average at this time of year. It is predicted that the center of the Arctic cold will be located somewhere near the Ohio Valley.
“I think the places where there will be extreme cold will be the Great Lakes, Ohio and Tennessee Valleys,” said Michael Ventris, a meteorologist with WSI Corp. (part of the company Weather).
Ventris believes that northern Minnesota could face low temperatures, especially at night. This also applies to Nashville and Atlanta.
According to forecasts, in mid-December, high-pressure areas will develop and be maintained in high latitudes, forming a so-called blocking scheme.
Such blocks, especially in the area of high pressure over Greenland, are usually associated with cold air fronts and blizzards in the eastern United States and Western Europe.
The blockage of high latitude will bring unusually mild air for this time of year to the Arctic, which is likely to lead to a sharp slowdown in the growth of winter sea ice throughout the region.
“The most unusual warmth will be felt by residents from Alaska to the Arctic Circle,” Ventris said. “We will see temperature anomalies in some places around the North Pole, which will likely delay or reduce Arctic ice growth/levels,” he added.
New studies show that the slow growth of Arctic sea ice during the autumn and early winter may change the weather conditions in the northern middle latitudes, including due to an increase in the autumn snowfall in some regions of Siberia.
