New baggage and carry-on baggage rules come into force in Russia

5 November 2017 in Russia new rules for the transportation of baggage and hand luggage in airplanes came into force.

Changes published on the site Ministry of Transport of Russia.

According to the new rules, three types of air fares were established in Russia: a non-refundable baggage ticket, a non-refundable ticket with baggage and a return ticket with baggage weighing from 10 to 30 kilograms.

Passengers with non-refundable tickets can carry their hand luggage weighing up to 5 kg free of charge (instead of 10 kg, as provided for by the previous traffic rules). Passengers will have to weigh their carry-on baggage before flying.

Airlines were allowed, if desired, to increase the allowed weight of carry-on “as a competitive advantage.”

If the hand luggage in weight and dimensions exceeds the norms established by the airline, it must be checked in.

The following items can be carried on board an aircraft above the standard hand baggage and at no extra charge:

• a backpack, the weight and dimensions of which are established by each airline, or bag, or briefcase;
• bouquet of flowers;
• outer clothing;
• baby food for the child during the flight;
• a suit in a portplede;
• a device for carrying a child (cradle, stroller), the dimensions of which are determined by the airline;
• medications and “special dietary requirements” during flight;
• crutches;
• canes;
• walker;
• folding wheelchair;
• goods purchased in the zone Duty Free airport, which are sealed in a plastic bag.

From the list of items that can be transported free of excess of hand luggage, excluded a laptop, mobile phone and an umbrella. They must be carried in a backpack or bag.
