In Russia, died an official involved in the doping scandal in athletics
The former executive director of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency, Nikita Kamaev, who resigned because of the scandal with the Russian track and field athletes, died suddenly at the age of 50.
Как сообщается, Kamaev’s death was allegedly caused by a heart attack.
Only ten days earlier, the chairman of the Executive Board of RUSADA, Vyacheslav Sinev, who headed the organization from its inception to 2010, passed away.
The causes of death of Sinev have not been voiced until now.
Nikita Kamaev served as Executive Director since 2011, and was at the center of large-scale doping scandal, which led to the removal of the Russian national team in athletics from the competition under the auspices of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), including the Olympic Games 2016, in Rio de Janeiro.
“What happened looks like a massive heart attack,” said former RUSADA CEO Ramil Khabriev, who also resigned due to the scandal. “I found out that he went skiing, came home and felt pain in the heart area. They called an ambulance, but they were unable to start the heart.”
In addition, Khabriev stressed that Kamaev had never complained about his heart before.
It should also be noted that the head of the Moscow laboratory of RUSADA, Grigory Rodchenkov, who was subject to the main accusations by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Commission, left Russia.
As Russian media reported with reference to Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko, Rodchenkov went to the USA and, possibly, was already employed.
In autumn 2015 years WADA identified systematic violations in the Russian athletics, including confirmation of the massive use of doping and hiding positive doping samples. The report of the commission was based on the results of the investigation begun after the release of the German television film.
