In Russia may enter the tourist tax

The deputies proposed to consider the possibility of introducing a tax for foreign tourists who came to Russia.

The authors of the initiative propose to introduce into the Tax Code the concept of “tourist tax”, which will be collected from foreign citizens and stateless persons who arrived in Russia for a period of days to six months for tourist purposes. From the tax will be exempted, in particular, veterans, children, participants of the World Cup-2018.

The rate of collection will be from 0,5 to 1 percent of the hotel payment. “Thus, the more expensive the hotel is chosen by the tourist and the longer he arrives in the Russian Federation, the more he pays the tourist tax,” the explanatory note to the bill says.

The introduction of the tourist tax will increase the revenue side of the regional budgets, as well as concentrate funds on the restoration of historical and cultural monuments, the bill says.

The authors of the document refer to foreign experience. They note that in Italy, a tourist tax of five euros per person is charged in 20 resort areas and cities. In Berlin, tourists pay a tax of five percent of the cost of paying for the hotel.
