In Russia, there are rumors about the hunt for Russians abroad

The ministry advised the Russians to carefully weigh all the risks when traveling abroad.

The US authorities continue "the unacceptable practice of 'hunting' for Russians around the world, ignoring the norms of international law and twisting the arms of other states," the Russian Foreign Ministry (MFA) said. In this regard, the department published on its website warning for citizens traveling abroad.

“The threat of being detained or arrested at the request of US law enforcement and special services in third countries remains. It is very real, ”the statement said. It is noted that the Russians arrested in this way experience a biased attitude on the part of the American “justice”: “they are trying in every possible way to persuade them to admit their guilt, and in case of refusal they are sentenced to long prison terms”

Given these facts, the department advised the Russians to carefully weigh all the risks when traveling abroad. “First of all, this refers to trips to countries that have extradition treaties with the United States,” noted Smolensk Square. At the same time, the Foreign Ministry stressed that the staff of diplomatic missions abroad are always ready to provide "the Russians in need are in need of the necessary consular and legal assistance, seeking to respect their rights and return to their homeland."

It is not for the first time in Smolensk Square that the United States organized a systematic hunt for Russians all over the world. For example, in December last year, Konstantin Dolgov, an official of the Russian Foreign Ministry for Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law, noted that in Washington the arrests and detentions of Russian citizens are justified by "threats to America's national security." Moreover, he said, there is direct pressure on third countries to arrest Russians. At the same time, Dolgov declared that Russia would not respond to the “theft of US citizens”.

In April, the 2014 of the year after the introduction of the first Western sanctions, the Russian Foreign Ministry recommended that all Russians refrain from traveling to the United States and countries that have signed an agreement on mutual extradition with them. In total, the list includes more than 100 states, including almost all popular resort destinations and European countries. At the same time, employees of all law enforcement agencies were restricted to travel abroad.
