Ohio imposed restrictions on abortion

Ohio Governor John Caseyk vetoed a law banning abortion from the moment the embryo's heart began to beat (5-6 week of pregnancy), but approved a ban on abortions for more than 20 weeks.

A vetted law, if approved, would be one of the toughest bans on abortion in the United States, although advocates for abortion women criticize the ban on abortions for 20 weeks, reports CNN.

At the same time, the protector of the child’s right to life is welcomed by the governor’s decision.

The law in force in the state before that was passed in the 2011 year and prohibited abortion after 24 weeks of pregnancy, except in cases of rape, incest, or a threat to the life of the mother.

According to the new rules, which will take effect 90 days (mid-March 2017), abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy will be considered a fourth-degree felony committed by a doctor.

Casic noted that he had vetoed the “heartbeat law” to avoid lengthy and costly trials, which most likely would have ended in defeat for the authors of the law. Similar measures taken in the states of Arkansas and North Dakota were declared unconstitutional in federal court.

The leader of the Right to Life organization in Ohio, Mike Gonidakis, agreed with this, saying that the recent decision of the Supreme Court to allow abortions in all 50 states demonstrated federal policies in favor of abortions, and states should take this into account.

Some restrictions on abortion have been introduced in 43 US states. Most of them do not have a strict time limit on when an abortion is prohibited—the decision rests with the doctor, who determines the viability of the fetus and the point at which an abortion essentially turns into murder. In most cases, this occurs after 24 weeks of pregnancy.

Restrictions to 20 weeks are imposed in Georgia, South Carolina and now in Ohio.
