Legionellosis outbreak suppressed in New York

New York has managed to suppress an outbreak of Legionnaires' disease, which has killed ten people over the past month. The disease was detected in one hundred people. Legionellosis is an acute infectious disease of the lungs. It is also called Legionnaires' disease. It manifests itself in damage to the lungs and nervous system, general intoxication and fever.

The fact that the outbreak of legionellosis suppressed, said the mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio. He added that it was the largest outbreak of this disease in the history of the city itself.

The main focus of legionellosis was in the Bronx area. Legionella bacteria were found in ten buildings, including a mall and hospitals.

Sixty out of a hundred infected were hospitalized. At the moment, almost all were discharged from hospitals.

Legionellosis is not transmitted by contact. The disease begins to develop after inhalation of water vapor, mist or water from the nose with bacteria of Legionella.
