The death penalty was abolished in Nebraska
Lawmakers of the US state of Nebraska decided to abolish the death penalty.
The State Senate for the second time voted for a bill to abolish capital punishment, overcoming the veto that Governor Pete Ricketts had previously applied.
Nebraska is traditionally a conservative state. The last death sentence there was carried out in 1997 year.
Earlier, a jury in Massachusetts handed down a verdict Dzhokhara Tsarnaeva - the death penalty. In this state, the death penalty was abolished more than 30 years ago, but capital punishment can be applied if all members of the jury speak out for it unanimously. If at least one member of the jury spoke out, then Tsarnaev would be sentenced to life imprisonment.
