In the small town of Massachusetts, the entire police department quit

The city of Blandford in Massachusetts is home to about 1200 people, and the police department consisted of only four people.

At the time of writing, all four people resigned, so residents of the state police take calls from residents.

The massive resignation of Blandford’s entire police department, headed by interim police chief Roberta Sarnaki, took place after they had declared that they were facing unsafe working conditions.

Residents of Blandford can still call 911 in an emergency and can contact the Massachusetts State Police on other issues.

Blandford police said their work situation was desperate. Other complaints included wages of $ 14-15 an hour, including walkie-talkies that didn't work and bad bulletproof vests.

The officers also complained that their best car, a used Ford Crown Victoria 2010 of the year, does not have air conditioning, and the seats are broken.

Sarnaki did not respond to CNN's requests for additional comments.

Kara Letendre told CNN that the police department did not report these problems to city officials. She added that the police car, the malfunction of which the police officers complained about, is already working and is in the department’s atopark. She also added that the decision to merge with any nearby police department has not yet been made.

City officials may even decide to disband the entire police department, since about 90 percent of Blandford’s calls are considered by Massachusetts State police, Letendre said.

Bandford's elected leaders are hoping to find a replacement for Sarnaki before September 1, city temporary administrator Joshua Garcia told CNN on Wednesday.
