Shooting at Fort Lauderdale Airport: 5 dead, 8 injured
Shooting took place in the second terminal of Hollywood International Airport in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
As a result of the incident, 5 people died, 8 are in hospital with injuries, writes CNBC.
At the time of the shooting, the former White House press secretary, Ari Fleisher, was at the airport, he wrote on his Twitter microblog that people were shooting at the building, and people were running in panic in different directions.
Ari Fleischer later reported that “everything looks calm,” but no one was allowed out of the airport building.
The gunman is detained. It turned out to be 26-year-old Esteban Santiago, who lives in New Jersey.
According to sources NBC, he was found a certificate of a soldier.
He flew to Fort Lauderdale on a flight from Anchorage, Alaska, with a transfer to Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, registering his weapon when boarding an aircraft, this was helped by his military ID. After arrival, he went to the baggage claim area, loaded the gun in the toilet and opened fire, reports NBC.
Santiago complained of hearing voices and was treated in a psychiatric clinic. A few months ago, he walked into the FBI office and claimed that the CIA forced him to join the Islamic State. Then the police detained him, and he voluntarily agreed to undergo treatment.
