In Colorado, nurses in schools were allowed to issue non-smoking medical marijuana to students if they have parental permission or a doctor’s prescription. The Denver Post.
The new law was signed this week by state governor John Hickenlooper. Parents can bring medical marijuana to the school nurse’s office by providing a doctor’s prescription and instructions with the appropriate dosage. The substance must be stored in a special container, locked with a key.
The new law prohibits students who use medical marijuana to independently bring it to the school nurse’s office or transport it on the school bus.
Hickenlooper also noted that he agreed to sign the law, only making sure that marijuana "will not fall into the hands of other students."
Colorado became the first US state where it was allowed to grow, sell and use marijuana not only for medical reasons, but also for recreational purposes, it happened in 2014 year.
Recreational marijuana is currently legal in eight states: Alaska, California, Colorado, Massachusetts, Maine, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and Washington, DC. Medical marijuana is legal in the 28 regions of the United States. Most states legalized the use of marijuana for recreational purposes after legalizing medical cannabis. This attempt failed only in Arizona.
