In Kansas, there was a shooting in a bar: 4 killed and 5 wounded

In Kansas City (Kansas), police are looking for one of two suspects who opened fire at a bar on Sunday morning, 6 October. As a result, 4 man was killed and another 5 wounded. The police arrested the first suspect in the evening the same day. Writes about this CBS News.

The first suspect, Javier Alatorre, was arrested in Kansas City already in Missouri. The operation was attended by the Kansas City Police, the FBI and the Federal Bureau to Combat Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Another suspect, Hugo Villanuev-Morales, is still on the wanted list; he is armed and is considered particularly dangerous.

Both suspects are charged with 4 first-degree murders. The security deposit was set at $ 1 million for each accused.

Kansas City police spokesman Thomas Tomasich said that the accused and bar visitors apparently had a hassle, after which the two attackers left the bar and then returned with guns.

“We think something happened before the shooting,” Tomasich said. “Unfortunately, the suspects decided to take the dispute to another level: they brought weapons and started shooting.”

At the time of the shooting, there were about 40 visitors in the bar.

After the shot, people ran to the exit, wounded many.

“It’s a pretty small bar, so if two guys come in and start shooting, people start running wherever they can,” Tomasic said.

All four of the victims were Hispanic, but Tomasic said the police had no reason to believe that the shooting had begun on racial grounds. It's just that the bar is located next to the area where the majority of Hispanics live.

Police are still investigating what exactly happened - reviewing surveillance video, interviewing witnesses and conducting search operations.

“Obviously, surveillance cameras will help bring clarity,” Tomasic said.

Families and friends of the victims gathered near the bar on Sunday, October 6. Three of the four dead were regular customers of the bar.

One was about to get married, the second spent the last moments of his life protecting his friends from bullets, and the third was a hardworking business owner and father of two children.

Juan Ramirez said that among those killed was his 29-year-old nephew, who left behind a 6-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter. “I wouldn’t wish this on anyone,” Ramirez said.

According to the police, the ages of those killed were: one was in his fifties, the other was in his thirties, and two were in their twenties. The dead were not immediately identified; one dead person has still not been identified.

Bartender Jose Valdez before this refused to serve one of the suspects, because he created problems in the bar. The man threw a cup at the bartender and left, but later returned with another man shortly before closing.

Visitor Michael Barajas said he didn’t realize at first that he was hearing shots. When he tried to identify the shooter, he was suddenly shot in the shoulder.

“I understood what I needed move a little faster, but I was shocked,” he said.

Valdez said that three of the dead were regular customers of the bar, their parents also often visited this place.

“I don't know what to do with this. Sad day for everyone,” he said. “How can you go into a place full of people and just start shooting?”
