In California, a man beheaded his ex-girlfriend with a sword: she left two small children

Witnesses in the San Carlos, California area saw the bloody attack unfold. They told the news agency that the young mother-of-two was killed on Thursday, September 8, just a few steps from the house where she lived with a one-year-old toddler and a seven-year-old child.

The incident happened shortly before noon. Police received reports that "a 25-year-old woman had her head cut off with a sword."

The children did not witness their mother's murder, said Lieutenant Eamonn Allen of the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

Child Protective Services arrived promptly to take away the seven-year-old and one-year-old girls, as well as a dog and two cats that were found in the house.

“Children are afraid, they want to go to their mother,” the police said.

Upon arriving on the scene, the officers set to work and were quickly able to arrest the man they believe was responsible for the murder.

“Soon, the male suspect returned to the scene and was quickly apprehended by the police,” Lieutenant Allen said.

José Solano Landaeta, a Hayward resident, was arrested for the murder, the officer confirmed, but noted that the weapon used in the attack "has not yet been found."

It was later revealed that the suspect was the victim's ex-boyfriend. It was learned that the young mother-of-two received a temporary restraining order against the man back in April, but it is unclear if the order was in effect at the time of her death.

Residents of the area spoke with horror about what they saw on the street in front of their houses. Some were so shocked that they asked the simple question "why?"

One of the neighbors, Chapel Thorborn, gave details of the bloody scene.

“The head was under the car and the body was near the back of the car,” he said.

According to Thorborn, he had brief encounters with the couple before the fatal attack unfolded. A neighbor described seeing the suspect with friends shortly after the murder took place.

“When he cut off her head, he returned with two friends,” said Thorborn.

“Every time someone loses their life, it is certainly a tragedy. As for the shocking nature of this case, the assistants who first arrived on the scene were a little dumbfounded, ”Allen said, adding that psychological assistance services will be provided not only to officers, but also to civilian witnesses.
