ICE Agents Arrest More 150 Illegals in California

Immigration agents this week arrested more than 150 people who violated the US Immigration Act in Northern California, despite a warning from the mayor of Auckland about an upcoming raid.

ICE agents began making arrests in the San Francisco Bay Area as part of "targeted immigration enforcement operations" beginning Sunday, Feb. 25, the agency said. Fox News on Tuesday, February 27.

According to the agency, about half of the detainees had previously been accused of rape, use of force, crimes against children, possession of weapons and the like.

The agency noted that among the arrested was a registered gang member. 38-year-old Armando Núñez-Salgado from Mexico was arrested on Sunday, February 25, as part of a large-scale ICE raid, spokesman James Schwab said.

“For the past 18 years, [Nunez-Salgado] has had criminal charges in California that have resulted in a 15-year prison sentence or more,” Schwab said, adding that the man “has been removed from the country four times by ICE agents.” He is also a member of the Surinho street gang.

Arrests took place a day after Libby Schaaf, Democrat and Mayor of Auckland warned about the possible verification of US immigration and customs services in the Gulf area in the coming days.

In a statement released by KGO-TV, ICE officials then responded to Schaaf’s warning: “ICE operations are conducted daily, and it’s unclear what the mayor is talking about.”

ICE officials reported Fox Newsthat they appealed to the Ministry of Justice with a request to find out whether Schaaf violated any laws by warning residents about the check.

The agency believes that the warning Schaaf helped illegal immigrants to escape from law enforcement.
