The number of illegal immigrants trying to cross the US border has decreased dramatically
Data from the US Customs and Border Protection Service indicate that arrests of unauthorized persons crossing the south-western border decreased in June, writes NBC News.
It is noted that since the beginning of the fiscal year, 286 people have been arrested. Such data calls into question the warnings of the Donald Trump administration about the increase in the number of refugees from the Central American region.
Experts say the decline in migrant numbers is not due to the Trump administration's "zero tolerance" policy, but rather a trend that has been observed year after year.
“The long-term picture is clear—fewer and fewer undocumented migrants are attempting to enter the U.S. over 15 years—and the reason for this is more likely to be large macroeconomic changes than short-term immigration policy or political rhetoric,” says the director of the university’s Institute for Cross-Border Studies. San Diego Everward Mead.
