In Illinois, an explosion thundered at a chemical plant: there are dead and wounded
On the evening of May 3, an explosion occurred in Waukigan, Illinois. As a result, two people died, three were injured, the fate of two others is unknown.
According to police, the explosion occurred at AB Specialty Silicones plant in Waukigan, about 40 miles (about 65 km) north of Chicago. The company is positioning itself as a manufacturer of special silicone chemicals, writes CNN.
“A catastrophic explosion” occurred around 21: 30 local time, said police spokesman Joe Florip.
On the morning of May 4, one person was found dead at the scene, a local fire brigade Marshal said. From what exactly this person died, not yet reported. Four more were taken to hospital with injuries, later one of them died.

The search for two more, whose fate is unknown, was suspended due to hazardous conditions and the potential instability of structures affected by the explosion.
The owner of the building and the emergency service staff intend to deliver “heavy equipment” to the place of disposal of garbage.
There are hazardous materials experts and rescue teams at the scene. The cause of the explosion has not yet been established, an investigation is underway.

Florip said that at the time of the explosion the plant was open and was working.
Firefighters reported that all casualties were employees working on shift. Four people were taken to regional hospitals with moderate and severe injuries, later one of them died. Two others were also at work, but did not seek medical help.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office said on Twitter that it received reports of a "very loud sound" and "shaking ground."
According to the fire brigade chief, precautions were observed at the plant and there were no safety issues before.
