Colorado's mined mountains: travelers called for caution
Tourists who travel to the mountains of Colorado were asked to be attentive and attentive to inspect the tracks, as there were mines in the mountains that were supposed to lower avalanches, but not all of the ammunition that was laid broke, writes Fox News.
This year there were a record number of avalanches throughout the state. The State Department of Transportation (CDOT) laid more than 1500 explosives across the state. Of all the mines laid, 22 did not explode.
“There is a possibility that one of the travelers may run into unexploded ordnance. Our team is tracking where the unexploded ordnance is, but you may encounter it before we do,” said CDOT spokeswoman Tracy Trulove.
According to her, unexploded ordnance looks like small torpedoes, brightly colored in yellow, blue or orange.
According to authorities, for the first time in decades, the state has been working to mitigate avalanches. Work was also carried out on pedestrian routes and on both sides of the Continental Divide.
Avalanche mitigation work continues. According to Trulov, some mines can be hidden under the snow and are not visible until the snow melts.
Travelers who encounter unexploded ordnance are advised to stay away from them and call law enforcement.
