Protests against Trump's immigration policy took place in dozens of US cities

They opposed the “zero tolerance” policy imposed by President Donald Trump on illegal immigrants, writes “Voice of America".

In total, around 600 demonstrations took place across the country, with hundreds of thousands of people taking part.

Protests were held in major centers - Washington, Los Angeles and New York, and in small local communities in different parts of the United States.

Rallies received funding and support from several large organizations, including the American Civil Liberties Union and MoveOn.org.

Also on Saturday, several Broadway stars performed at a charity concert to support family reunification efforts that are divided on the border with Mexico.

In accordance with the “zero tolerance” policy, the federal government began criminal prosecution of all migrants who entered the country illegally. And to carry out this process, it is necessary to separate all illegals who have entered the country, including parents with children. It seems that Trump abolished this policy, but several hundred parents still cannot find children separated from them at the border.

In turn, Trump wrote on Twitter on Saturday that the appeals of some Democrats to abolish the US Immigration and Customs Police (ICE) are erroneous. Trump reiterated that ICE is doing an “incredible job” in getting rid of local communities from illegal immigrants committing criminal offenses and from “the worst criminal elements”, such as the international gang of MS-13.
