In the coming days, Moscow will mirror the expulsion of Russian diplomats by European countries, the answer will be worked out for each country, said RIA News source in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

“The answer will be mirrored. We will work in the coming days and give an answer for each country,” the agency’s interlocutor explained.

This was also stated by the Russian ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov, writes TASS. He said that Moscow will give an adequate response to the decision of the US authorities.

“I can say one thing: Washington does not understand anything other than force. Remember how it was in the 70s, when ours fought on hockey fields against Canada? They didn't even say hello to us. And only when we defeated the Canadian team, only then did they start respecting us and starting to give us a hand,” he said.

“And I believe that the response must be adequate, Moscow will make an appropriate decision. But I believe, even as a citizen of the Russian Federation, that such ill-considered, such provocative steps cannot be left unpunished,” added the head of the diplomatic mission. Antonov emphasized that “today the United States <...> is destroying what little remains in Russian-American relations.”

Antonov strongly protested Washington’s decision to expel the 60 of Russian diplomats.

“Having received this information, I expressed strong protest against the unlawful actions of the United States of America and emphasized that to date there is not a single evidence of Russian interference in the investigation of the [Skripal] case as such, nor of Russia’s involvement in the tragedy that occurred in Salisbury,” he said.

According to him, the best option to investigate the case of Skrypal is to conduct the relevant proceedings in the framework of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

“I would like to emphasize that the best option for resolving the so-called Skripal case is a calm and professional investigation within the framework of the OPCW, where all interested countries are represented,” he said.

Antonov said that 46 diplomats from Washington would leave the US, two from the consulate general in New York, and 12 officers of the Russian Permanent Mission to the United Nations declared persona non grata.

“The point is that 46 people are what concerns Washington, and 2 people from our consulate general in New York. I have just received additional information that 12 more diplomats have been declared persona non grata from our permanent mission to the UN. In addition, our Consulate General in Seattle (Washington) will close as of March 30,” he said.

He clarified that Russian diplomats will continue to work in the United States in the remaining composition. According to him, Moscow will take all possible measures to ensure that diplomats leave the United States within the prescribed weekly period.

“This is a serious blow to the quantitative and qualitative composition of the Russian Embassy in Washington. We will take all necessary actions, of course, with the coordination and assistance of Moscow, so that all Russian citizens can safely leave the United States within the established time frame,” the ambassador said.

Ukraine will send 13 Russian diplomats out of solidarity with the UK. Similar measures were announced in the USA, the Baltic countries, Poland and Germany.

British newspaper The Times With reference to an unnamed source said that such a step will go France, Germany, Poland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and several other European countries.

The authorities rejected the suspicion of involvement in the crime and refused to respond to the ultimatum, demanding to provide official information about the case.
