Legendary Dean Smith Passes Away
Dean Smith died, coach and legend of American basketball, who won two league titles, coaching the University of North Carolina, and a gold medal at the Olympics. Dean Smith was immortalized in the Hall of Basketball glory.
In 2013, President Obama presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Smith.
Dean Smith's sports career lasted over 40 years. He coached many basketball stars, including Michael Jordan and James Worsy. In the 1997 year, when Smith retired, he was the most award-winning basketball coach. On his account was 879 victories.
President Obama responded to Smith's death. “America has lost not only the legendary coach,” says a February 8 presidential statement, “but also a gentleman and a citizen. Coach Smith showed us what I have always seen and sees again and again on the basketball court: what basketball says about a person is more than any jump shot [B1]. ”
[B1] I have no idea what a jumpshot is. There is no such thing in the dictionary, but in basketball I do not understand anything.
