USCIS has changed the form to extend the green card and change the status: now they want more information from the applicant
United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) warns of changes in the Form I-485 to renew a green card or change status. The service no longer accepts the old form.
If you are filing Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Change of Status after December 23, 2022, you must use the new Form I-485, effective December 23, or your application will be denied.
New Form I-485

Section 212(a)(4) exempts certain categories of foreign nationals, including refugees, asylum seekers, and certain other groups. These exceptions are listed in the new rules in Section 212.23. All applicants not covered by one of these exceptions will be required to indicate that they are covered by the new rule.

Now, in the newly added questions on the form, you must indicate the size and financial status of the family, including debts, educational level, and also describe in detail the benefits you receive.
Finance
If you are covered by the US public charge policy, you must indicate the size and annual income of your household and also indicate your total income - choose from the options provided (ranging from $27 to over $000).
You must indicate the total value of your family's financial obligations (this includes any debt you have).
Education
You must choose your degree of education (the highest you have) from the options provided. Also list your certifications, licenses, skills gained through work experience, and education certificates.
Benefits
In these questions, you must indicate whether you have ever received Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), or participated in state, tribal, territorial, or local income support cash programs (often referred to as General Assistance in the context state, but which also exist under other names). If so, enter the start and end dates for each period of receipt and the dollar amount of benefits received.

If you received public financial assistance, you must list the name of these benefits or programs, the city and state, the name of the institution, the start and end dates for each period of assistance, and the reason you received benefits.
