Some US parks can only be visited by advance booking: list and registration conditions

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in millions of distraught Americans fleeing their homes at the earliest opportunity and actually spending most of their time outdoors, including in national parks.
But the sudden influx of visitors to the country's most historic natural sites has put a huge strain on the entire infrastructure. Reservations have become the new normal for handling record visitor numbers.

Some parks have decided to drop their booking requirements, while others have decided the new system should have been in place a long time ago.
Of the 63 major US national parks in 2023, nine of them will require advance booking in addition to the admission fee:
- Acadia National Park, Maine - can be booked by link.
- Arches National Park, Utah - can be booked by link.
- Glacier National Park, Montana - can be booked by link.
- Haleakala National Park, Hawaii - can be booked by link.
- Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado - can be booked by link.
- Shenandoah National Park, Virginia - can be booked by link.
- Yosemite National Park, California - can be booked by link.
- Zion National Park, Utah - can be booked by link.

In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of visits to US national parks. Zion National Park in Utah set new visitor records in 2021 as tourism recovered from restrictions put in place in the early days of the pandemic.
