Ukrainian military programmers won the NASA competition
The team of the Zhytomyr Korolev Military Institute won a victory in the NASA Space Apps Challenge 2016 international competition in Ukraine. Her project DronProtect was the answer to the task of Don't Crash My Dron.
NASA holds an international programming competition (hackathon) every year since 2012, but in Ukraine it was organized for the first time. She took the competition Kirovograd Flight Academy of the National Aviation University. The hackathon was conducted simultaneously in 170 countries of the world from 22 to 24 April.
According to its terms, the participants had to solve the tasks set by NASA during 48 hours. Tasks were related to topics such as technology, aeronautics, space station, the solar system, the Earth and the journey to Mars.
Participants who chose Don't Crash My Dron from the Aeronautics theme were required to develop a geographic information system for small drone operators. The system should provide maximum data on weather conditions in the flight area, position the devices in Google services, and also determine the zone closed for flights within a radius of 8 km, based on the current coordinates of the drone.
Following the results of the project defense, the competition jury unanimously recognized the winner of the DronProtect project. Due to this, the project was able to fight for a grant.
