Trump's anti-opioid plan provides for the death penalty for drug traffickers
The administration of US President Donald Trump has prepared a new plan to combat the opioid crisis in the country, which provides for the introduction of the death penalty for some drug traffickers, writes The Hill referring to the data of the newspaper Politico.
The death penalty is possible if the opioid traffickers are “directly responsible for the death”.
It is noted that Trump worked for several weeks to allow prosecutors to seek the death penalty in drug-related cases.
The plan is still being finalized, but may be released as early as Monday.
During the month, the plan was being finalized by various politicians and includes many recommendations from the Trump opioid commission. The document contains various measures and plans that are aimed at prevention, treatment and other efforts to combat the opioid crisis.
In late October, Trump declared the epidemic of opioids a national emergency. Opioid mortality increased by almost 28% from 2015 to 2016 a year, according to the latest data from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
