Tornadoes, tornadoes and hail hit Texas: houses destroyed, there are victims

On April 12, a series of tornadoes hit north of Austin, Texas, injuring 23 people and destroying many homes, reports New York Post.

One tornado that swept through the Bell Country around 18:00. Traveled a total of 8 miles on land and destroyed houses in the countryside, District Judge David Blackburn said.

“Trees, big trees, uprooted, overturned, stripped,” Blackburn said. “Buildings have indeed turned into ruins in many places.” Power lines and poles are scattered everywhere. It's pretty devastating."

Of the injured Texans, 12 remained in the hospital — one in critical condition — and 11 were treated and were discharged or refused medical attention, the judge said.

No deaths were reported.

At a distance of about 1400 km on April 12, tornado warnings were in effect in Iowa.

Storm chasers captured stunning footage of the massive tornado heading into Gilmore City around 18:20 p.m.

According to The Des Moines Register, no injuries were immediately reported.

A record number of tornadoes were recorded in the US last month, according to the National Weather Service. At least 219 cyclones were recorded in March, more than double the monthly average.

Federal officials have warned that warmer temperatures associated with climate change are causing more intense and frequent eddies across the Great Plains and the southeast.

Damage was reported in Humboldt County, Iowa, where a storm watcher reported that the car hit a tree that had been downed by the hurricane. The driver was not injured.

Severe storms hit as far north as Minnesota and as far south as Louisiana. The small town of Taopi, Minnesota, was evacuated after a tornado damaged homes there.

Adams' Volunteer Fire Chief told a local news station that "some of the houses were blown off their foundations" and that "most had no roofs there."

Strong winds toppled nine semi-trailers on I35 in southern Minnesota. No harm done.

Storms that hit Bossier City, Louisiana, knocked down trees on houses. Several people had to be rescued.
Bell County, located about 60 km north of Austin, also includes the cities of Temple, Killeen, and Harker Heights. Fort Hood of the US Army is based in the district.

Storms began on the evening of April 11 with at least one tornado north of Little Rock, Arkansas and heavy hail in some areas.

This is the fourth consecutive week of severe weather in parts of the US. Since March 21, the National Weather Service has received about 1400 reports of tornadoes, strong winds or hail.
