The priest had to expel the family from the church, which came to the funeral of her mother. VIDEO
A priest from Maryland drove the grieving family out of the church before their mother’s funeral.
Rev. Michael Breeze caught the video during an unpleasant conflict with the relatives of the late Agnes Hicks in the Catholic Church of St. Mary at Charlotte Hall, the news service reported WTTG.
According to the WTTG, the feud began when someone knocked on the sacred golden bowl, damaging it, before the start of the morning service.
“That’s when all hell broke loose,” Hicks’ daughter, Shantice Keesey, told the news station. "[Breeze] said, 'There won't be any funeral, there won't be any liturgy, there won't be any funeral dinner, everybody's leaving my church.'"
Briza can be seen in the video, filmed on a mobile phone, where he stood next to the coffin, punishing loved ones for the incident.
The family contacted the police, who escorted them to the funeral home, wanting to complete the funeral service.
Relatives, however, felt exhausted because Hicks did not serve in the church, where she was baptized as a young woman, according to WTTG.
“It was inappropriate and it really hurt me,” her brother Larry Hicks said.
The priest apologized for his actions on Thursday in an open letter published in the Maryland Independent.
“I said words I never used and treated the people I lived with inappropriately,” he said. “Instead of caring and compassion for grieving family and friends, I focused on anger.”
