Surkov proposed to remove the border between Russia and Abkhazia
Russian presidential aide Vladislav Surkov said that there should be no borders between Abkhazia and Russia.
After a meeting with the president and members of the government of the breakaway republic from Georgia, Surkov emphasized that the border must be removed, since “this is provided for in the new agreement between Russia and Abkhazia.”
In addition, Surkov confirmed Russia’s financial obligations towards Abkhazia. “For the current year, financial support for Abkhazia was expected in the amount of 4 billion rubles, but after the signing of a new agreement, this support was increased by another 5 billion. The situation in Russia is not easy, but Russia decided not to reduce expenses associated with supporting Abkhazia,” he said.
The agreement between Russia and Abkhazia on alliance and strategic partnership was signed by the presidents of the two states in Sochi on November 24 on November 2014.
