US court ordered Russian Girkin to pay $ 400 million to relatives of victims of MH17 disaster
The US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois ordered the Russian insurgent Igor Girkin to pay $ 400 million of compensation to relatives of people who died in the crash of the MH17 flight in Donbas in 2014.
With the demand for compensation, the relatives of the victims of the disaster turned to 25, writes RBC.
Legal proceedings were opened against Igor Girkin, who at that time was the commander of the militants and the “Minister of Defense of the self-proclaimed DPR.” The total compensation to the relatives of the victims of the tragedy should be $400 million, although they have practically no chance of receiving this money. Girkin did not appear at the court hearings, and he was also not found at his registered address in Moscow. Lawyers for relatives of the disaster victims announced their intention to request the arrest of his property.
The shooter himself comments on the Russian TV channelRain”Stated that he was“ neither warm nor cold ”from the decision of the American court, but that he, in principle,“ does not mind paying. ”
“Since I’m already almost the “number 1 terrorist in the world,” what should I be afraid of? This doesn’t make me feel warm or cold, it won’t make me any worse,” Girkin said.
He invited the relatives of the victims to try to “get something from him.”
“Am I against it or what? If I have an extra half a billion dollars, I don’t mind paying my relatives for someone who shot down someone unknown Boeing, I wouldn’t mind helping people,” added Girkin.
Boeing-777 Malaysia Airlines was shot down over Donbass on July 17, 2014. There were 298 people on board, all of them died. Among the passengers were 80 minors, including three young children. An international commission of inquiry confirmed that it was Russia that supplied the separatists with the Buk missile system from which the plane was destroyed.
In response to this, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that “no Russian anti-aircraft missile systems, including Buk, have ever crossed the Russian-Ukrainian border.”
