A builder from New York won $ 245 million in Powerball

Newly-minted multimillionaire and humble Staten Island resident Nandlall Mangal says he's always dreamed of going to Hawaii. Now he can easily do it - Mangal bought a Powerball lottery ticket and won $245.6 million.

True, in addition to a trip to the Hawaiian Islands, he has no plans. The man is sure that his life will change dramatically, writes New York Post.

“This is a lot of money,” he told reporters. “I can’t imagine what will happen next.”

Seeing the money due on the lottery ticket, Mangal said, “I think I’m going to pass out.”

A 42-year-old man bought a ticket for only $ 6 on August 11 at Stop & Shop on Hilan Boulevard, where he came to buy groceries. An immigrant from Guyana who lives with his wife in a modest ranch in New Dorpe and works as a builder and carpenter, recalls how, while shifting groceries, he threw aside the same ticket.

For several days he had no idea about how he had become incredibly rich. But when he heard that no one had declared a prize, the man decided that he should look at his ticket before throwing it away.

“The ticket was on the table in the kitchen because I was out of town,” says Mangal. “I don’t really check the tickets that often,” he adds, recalling that he bought tickets several times after the jackpot exceeded 100 million.

“Who really thinks they can win the lottery?”

The lump sum payment that Mangal decided to place in a trust called "Sea and Sand" will be $99,321,975 after all deductions. “I like the sea and the sand,” he explained.

Mangal's neighbor, 20-year-old Alex Tooth, says the man and his wife live alone in their modest three-bedroom house. They have no children, and sometimes they invite the family to parties in the backyard.

“He is quiet, but straightforward,” says a neighbor, recalling the time Mangal came to him with a complaint about loud music. “Even when he gets angry, he still tries to be good.”

Mangal did not leave work and did not even tell his colleagues about his winnings. The man’s family also found out about this only on Thursday - and now he suspects that many long-forgotten relatives may show up after learning that Mangal has money.

“But if I didn’t know them two weeks ago, I don’t know them today,” he emphasizes.

Brazier became the 91 th lottery participant from New York who won more than 1 million dollars this year.
