US will give Ukraine $ 16,4 million for citizens living in the conflict zone

The US government intends to transfer to the authorities of Ukraine $ 16,4 million in the form of humanitarian aid for forced migrants from the zone of the special operation in the Donbas, as well as for people who live in the battle zone.

“The funds will be used to support the Ukrainian government's response to the crisis caused by Russia's aggressive actions, and will also help alleviate the suffering of people in conflict-affected areas in eastern Ukraine, including Donetsk and Luhansk. Many of these people are extremely vulnerable and are unable to leave,” says a message published on the US State Department website following the visit of US Secretary of State John Kerry to Kyiv on Thursday.

This assistance will go to those in need of shelter and repairs at home, blankets, bedding, warm clothes, and other support to meet the most important humanitarian needs.

“In addition, this funding will provide physical therapy, wheelchairs, rehabilitation and counseling support for those traumatized by violence. Finally, the package will help improve conditions for internally displaced people, minor infrastructure repairs, and help local governments restore public services in conflict-affected areas,” it said.

Earlier on Thursday, at a joint press conference with US Secretary of State John Kerry, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk thanked the United States for providing financial assistance for the needs of Donbass. “We are grateful to the US government that we have received $16 million from the US, which will be provided directly to the Donetsk and Lugansk regions that need these funds,” Yatsenyuk said.
