The US is ready to strengthen its participation in the implementation of the Minsk agreements

The United States is interested in facilitating the implementation of the Minsk agreements in the Donbas. And the observers of the OSCE mission should have access to the entire Ukrainian-Russian border to inspect all cargo that goes to Ukraine.

This statement was made by US Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland while in Kyiv. “Our main message during our visit to Ukraine is to demonstrate that the United States is ready to be more deeply involved to ensure full implementation of the Minsk agreements regarding security, political aspects, as well as humanitarian assistance,” Victoria Nuland said the purpose of her visit to Ukraine.

She also noted the hard work of the Ukrainian authorities in carrying out reforms: “I know that Ukraine is now working very hard to introduce new reforms at an extremely difficult time for the country. I also raised the issue of constitutional reform and decentralization issues.”

The US Assistant Secretary of State also said, commenting on her meetings with Ukrainian officials, that the work of the OSCE mission was discussed at the meeting with the Ukrainian authorities: “We discussed in great detail how the OSCE can act and strengthen its role in facilitating Shyrokyne’s defense, so that Ukraine can protect Mariupol«.

“We also discussed very specifically the issue of borders, namely, ensuring access for OSCE representatives to the entire border line in order to be able to check all cargo arriving on the territory of Ukraine,” noted Victoria Nuland.

She also noted that during communication with representatives of the Ukrainian authorities a significant place was given to the work of the working group on humanitarian issues on how to ensure the delivery of humanitarian supplies to civilians in Donbass.

The Assistant Secretary of State also stated: “This is my first visit (to Ukraine) since February, when I Secretary of State (US John) Kerry accompanied here, and I am leaving Ukraine with a feeling of optimism, because I see that you are working very persistently in these difficult times, despite the pain of reforms, to create a democratic, new and clean Ukraine.”
