In the capital of Ohio Columbus at one of the largest fairs in the United States an accident occurred on a working attraction Fireball. Rotating seats with people in motion detached from the overall structure. According to the police, one person died, another seven were injured. The condition of the three victims is estimated as critical.
Judging by the published video, Fireball swinging a rotating "carousel" with people at the end of the "pendulum" At some point after passing through the low point and when climbing up from the carousel, the seats began to come off and people fell. According to the operator’s website, the carousel makes 13 revolutions per minute, while it can rise to an altitude of 12 meters. The tragedy occurred on the first day of the fair, July 26.
After that, the governor of Ohio John Kesik said that all the attractions at the fair will be temporarily closed for inspection. According to him, Fireball passed several inspections, including with the participation of a third-party structure. The official responsible for the inspection of attractions in the state official of the Department of Agriculture noted that the inspections are carried out for a long time, since the attraction is complex and consists of several parts, reports NBC. According to the results of inspections Fireball on Wednesday received permission to operate. 11 other fair attractions did not receive such permits, because they did not have time to pass inspection.
Killed 18 year old boy reported Reuters sources in the fire service. He was thrown from the attraction at a distance 15 m. The names of the dead and injured have not yet been named. It is known that among the wounded there is a 13-year-old.
Note that the Ohio State Fair is held from 1850. It usually takes place in Columbus during 12 days in late July and early August.
