Sweden for the first time in 57 years has released a booklet "How to prepare for war"
For the first time since 1961, the Swedish government has released a booklet on civil defense and how to behave in the event of war.
In a brochure called Om crrisen eller kriget kommer (“If a crisis or war sets in”) explains how people can provide basic needs, such as food, water, and heat, what warning signals mean what, where to find bomb shelters, and how to contribute to the “full protection” of Sweden. writes about it The Guardian.
An 20-page brochure, illustrated with photographs of sirens, warplanes and families running from their homes, also prepares people for dangers such as cyber and terrorist attacks and climate change, and includes a page for defining fake news.
“Although Sweden is safer than many other countries, there are still threats to our security and independence,” the brochure says. “If you are prepared, you are doing your part to improve the country's ability to cope with serious stress.”
Such leaflets were first distributed in neutral Sweden in 1943, at the height of the Second World War. Updates were published regularly until 1961, and then to local and national government officials until 1991.
"Society is vulnerable, so we need to prepare ourselves."
The idea of joining NATO intensified in Sweden after the Russian annexation of Crimea in 2014 and the recent incursions into the airspace of Sweden and the territorial waters of Russian aircraft and submarines.
The country began to abolish the reduction in military spending, and last year it hosted the largest military exercises in nearly a quarter of a century, and also voted for the resumption of conscription and the publication of joint plans with Denmark to counter Russian cyber attacks and disinformation.
Sweden has not been at war with other countries for more than 200. The brochure says: “We will never give up. All the information that resistance ceases is false. ”
