School student called 911 because of a difficult maths task

The police of the city of Fort Collins, Colorado, received a call from an 10-year-old boy who could not solve a mathematical puzzle. The dispatcher Chris Clough answered the call. ABC News.

“Hey, it's not an emergency, but I'm 10 years old and I'm doing my math homework right now and I can't figure out how to divide 71 by 3052,” the boy told the dispatcher.

Clow realized that the boy, whose name was not revealed, confused the numbers and he had to get 3052 to 71, and not vice versa.

After asking a few clarifying questions, Clow returned with the answer: "The answer will be 42,98, you should round off the answer to 43."

"Thank you. Thank you very much,” said the boy.

Clowe did not give media comments, but Kate Kimble, a police spokeswoman, said police often receive calls from people who are not in an emergency.

“From an early age, children are taught to call the police if they need help. This incident is not something we are used to dealing with, but we are glad that our dispatcher was able to help. But not all dispatchers are skilled in math or don't have a calculator handy, as was lucky for dispatcher Chris. Please call 911 only in emergencies,” the police department said in a statement on Facebook.

“You can also dial 970-419-FCPD for non-emergencies, although it is worth noting that FCPD is not responsible for ensuring homework is completed correctly. If you or your child requires assistance, please contact a school staff member during office hours. They love to communicate with their students,” the police wrote.
