Puppies from pet stores infected with 39 infection of Americans
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are investigating the outbreak of Campylobacter infection in several states in the country.
Centers experts found out that puppies from pet stores of the national network became the cause of the spread of the disease. Petland, writes ABC.
As of September 11, Campylobacter infection had been detected in 39 people in seven states: 11 cases in Florida, 18 in Ohio; 5 in Kansas, 2 in Pennsylvania and one each in Missouri, Tennessee and Wisconsin. Among the sick are 12 network employees Petland and 27 buyers in these pet stores. Nine people were hospitalized.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are investigating the work of the pet store chain to find out what could have caused the spread of the infection.
Campylobacteriosis is a common bacterial infection that can cause diarrhea, abdominal pain and fever. Symptoms, which usually begin two to five days after exposure to the bacteria, last about a week, although some people experience no signs of illness. Almost every patient recovers within five days without treatment. In rare cases, the infection can lead to complications, including paralysis or even death.
